1767 – Strawberry Shortcake

This charming design is reminiscent of “Strawberry Shortcake.” During the 1980s, Strawberry Shortcake became a huge fad for young girls throughout the United States. At the time, there were many related products, such as sticker albums, clothing, a video game by Parker Bros. entitled “Strawberry Shortcake Musical Match-Ups” for the Atari 2600, and numerous other products. Several TV specials were made featuring the characters, one each year between 1980 and 1985, when the fad had waned. This delectable pink and red motif looks like the character’s trademark hat. Dozens of wild strawberry flowers adorn this piece, along the base of each tier. The cheery red and pink dots are strewn all over the work, and the green “stems” add an accenting color to the piece. The birthday girl’s name is printed in large block letters on the supporting platform in pale pink.  Whether or not your little princess is a fan of “Strawberry Shortcake”, this piece is destined to please.
